Linguistic anthropologist Charles Zuckerman will trace the political, economic and moral dimensions of the lottery in Luang Prabang during his doctoral research, which focused on gender and morality in Lao society. He will also discuss what his fieldwork revealed about the mechanics of the lottery system, and how it reflects the national goals of socialist development. This talk is based on his upcoming book, “Laos and the Lottery”.
