Thai lotto is Thailand’s national lottery. Held twice monthly on the 1st and 16th, this form of legal gambling draws huge crowds. Tickets can be found for sale at convenience stores and street vendors throughout Thailand, and it remains one of Thailand’s two main forms of legal betting. Prize money varies based on how many numbers are correctly matched up; winning all six usually results in several million baht!
Thais take the lottery seriously, so local news outlets regularly report on creative ways they believe they can find winning numbers. From creepy nightmares and bizarre animals to banana flowers and flower power omens, here are seven unconventional tricks Thais use when choosing lottery numbers.
Dreams Can Predict Lotto Win
In Thailand, dreams are considered an indicator of good luck. That is why so many people keep a diary or calendar to record their dreams, then assess which were good or bad later. Thailand also is notorious for having some strange nightmares that some believe is an omen of winning the lottery.
If you are fortunate enough to win a lottery prize, you will be required to pay taxes of 0.5% for government lotteries and 1% for charitable ones. You can either visit GLO (Government Lottery Office) directly to pay these fees or cash your prize from an agent in your locality.
Once you win the lottery, to claim your prize you must present both your ticket and ID or passport (for foreigners). Most vendors will collect and pay stamp duty on your behalf before giving you either cash or cheque as payment of winnings.
Each Thai Lotto ticket costs 80 baht, and contains two parts. The top part contains lottery numbers while the bottom contains information on how to claim your prize. Both parts are printed in black while red for your convenience – keep this ticket safe until after claiming your prize as it will need to be verified that you’re the rightful winner!
Visit the Thai Lotto official website to access real-time results and see how your numbers compare with those of other participants. Plus, see which prizes are up for grabs, plus see a list of past winners at the bottom of the results page!
