Drawings often show numbers that disappear from purchased tickets or are deemed unlucky by buyers, sources in the communist nation told RFA’s Lao Service. The companies responsible for running the lottery are said to include families of Lao ruling elites. “People are afraid to play the lottery because of this,” a resident of the capital Vientiane told RFA.
