Thai Lotto (, Thai Lotto) is Thailand’s official national lottery, held every first and sixteenth of each month. Prize amounts depend on how many correct numbers match; with top prize awards often totalling several million baht. Thai Lotto is widely popular abroad – particularly Saudi Arabia and Kuwait where regular draws take place.
Each Thai Lotto ticket costs 80 baht and consists of two sections. The top section contains lottery numbers while the bottom part allows users to claim prizes. Groups of six numbers represent different digits – making Thai Lotto an enjoyable form of gambling for both men and women.
For ticketholders looking to win, the Thai Lotto offers one large prize: matching all six of the winning numbers from its first prize draw. Although playing may not be illegal, playing it still comes with extremely low odds of success – although not illegal or recommended!
Thammasat University statistics expert Jonathan Leru has noted that in order to have even a chance at winning a second-digit prize, an individual would need to continuously purchase national lotteries for four years and two months – raising concerns regarding government’s continued promotion of lottery, which only offers minimal chances of increasing wealth.
As well as its seemingly slim chances, there are other motivations for betting the Thai Lotto besides simply trying their luck at it. Some may be drawn by instant riches while others believe their luck will improve if they have a good hair day or find money on the street. Still others find their entertainment through gambling on lotteries or simply can’t stop betting the Thai Lotto!
Even with such warnings, Thai Lotto remains a very popular form of gambling in Thailand. Thanks to government initiatives, individuals can purchase tickets both online and at physical locations – making the lottery attractive among tourists and expats alike.
There are two kinds of Thai lotto tickets: government lottery (TGL) and Thai Charity Lottery (TCL). TGL tickets feature first prizes of two million baht and are taxed at 0.5%, while TCL ones feature first prizes of three million baht that are taxed as 1%.
