Lottery Online

Lottery Online – There are numerous web sites that allow people to play lottery-style games without purchasing actual tickets. Some of these sites charge premiums on base lottery prices, while others offer free games that are monetized by the use of advertisements and other revenue-generating methods. The legality of these sites depends largely on the gambling laws in the jurisdiction in which they operate.

In some countries, the government regulates and controls state-run lotteries. In other cases, the government allows private businesses to organize and manage national or local lotteries. These companies typically collect money from players to distribute prizes, and they often use their profits to support charitable projects in the community. While state-run lotteries are the most popular in many nations, the internet has made it possible for players to purchase lottery tickets in a wide variety of other jurisdictions as well.

In Canada, for example, the government operates four nationwide lottery games: Lotto 6/49, Lotto Max (which replaced Lotto Super 7 in September 2009), Daily Grand and Millionaire Life. In addition, the government allows players to purchase tickets from other private organizations that operate under provincial/territorial licenses and sell them at brick-and-mortar locations and online.

Lottery games have also evolved to include instant-win options, such as scratch cards or video lottery terminals. These machines are similar to slot machines, but offer a much broader range of games than standard slot machines. The largest worldwide operator of instant-win games is GTech Corporation, headquartered in West Greenwich, Rhode Island. The company administers approximately 70% of worldwide lottery instant-win sales.

The government of Laos has ordered state lottery officials to stop rigging the system and manipulating winning numbers to avoid large pay-outs, sources tell RFA’s Lao Service. Drawings in the country’s legal state lottery have been known to display numbers that vanish from purchased tickets or that are deemed unlucky, while other numbers appear multiple times on ticket purchases.

The state’s directive, sent to the ministry of finance on Aug. 17, orders that state lottery drawing dates be reduced from two to one per week and that winnings be handled more transparently. The directive also calls for informal football lotteries and lottery chances sold through short messaging services to be closed down. Lao deputy finance minister Sila Viengkeo told RFA that the directive would be strictly enforced, but he declined to comment further on the allegations about rigged lottery drawings.
