The talk will be based on ethnographic fieldwork in Luang Prabang conducted from 2013-2016 by Dr. Charles Zuckerman, who is a professor of modern Asian culture and society at the University of Washington. His work focuses on the many things that playing the lottery and choosing numbers mean for people living in urban and rural areas of Laos.
