After his initial reprimand, Lee hired an attorney and informed lottery officials of his intention to appeal the ban. He maintained he hadn’t intended to violate any rules and felt such an extreme punishment was unnecessary and excessive; further comparing sports betting in Connecticut to tribal casinos with more transparent rules where less back-and-forth occurs between bettors and operators.

Lee testified at his hearing and admitted placing bets “just below kiosk limits”, being adept at manipulating machines (“I’m really damn good at it”). However, he denied placing bets for other individuals as he never realized he was breaking rules as nobody ever informed him otherwise.

Hearings are currently underway and lottery officials have yet to make their decision on whether to uphold or overturn Lee’s ban from sports betting. He remains hopeful, however. Lee plans on continuing his medical degree studies and believes his experience of being banned from betting has altered his views of gambling institutions.
