Laos State Lottery Officials Rigging Drawings

Despite claims by officials that the country’s official state lottery system is well-run, authorities in the communist nation are rigging the system in order to avoid large pay-outs, sources have told RFA’s Lao Service. For example, on Oct. 14, the winning number in a national lottery drawing was 509, but it disappeared from purchased tickets throughout the day and reappeared only an hour before the drawing was scheduled to take place. Officials have promised to investigate this issue.
