In one instance, a number that appeared in the winning drawing on Oct. 14 this year—509—vanished from tickets purchased throughout the day after a lot of people sought to pick that number, a source told RFA. The number reappeared again only 10 minutes before the drawing was to be broadcast on local radio, and then it was again changed.

A lottery winner named Dokkeo Souksavanh says she has been inundated with calls, texts and notifications since her winning numbers were announced. She says she will spend a portion of her prize money on her family, and another part for travel. “I want to go to Vietnam, South Korea or Japan,” she said. She added that she hopes the government will take steps to restore its control of the lottery.
