A caller from Laos told RFA that he hoped the government would resume control of the national lottery, because private business interests have too much influence on the drawings. He added that the companies responsible for running the lottery are mainly owned by family members of top political leaders in the country. He said that it is not clear how much these business interests pay to the government each year for this concession and that nobody audits them. “Private business interests shouldn’t be responsible for the national lottery because the drawings can’t be trusted,” he said.
