A government official speaking on condition of anonymity told RFA that the Lao business interests responsible for the lottery’s work include persons with connections to the nation’s ruling elite. This has led to concerns that the results of the national lottery cannot be trusted. In addition, the official said, he did not know how much these business interests paid to the government for the annual cost of the lottery concession. He also did not know how the money was inspected or whether the companies were complying with government regulations.
