Lottery Online
The lottery is a popular form of gambling that involves the drawing of numbers for a prize. In most cases, the winner is notified through mail within 120 days after the drawing. Interested parties can apply online through DHA’s website or in person at an application center. Applicants must submit their applications before the deadline, which is December 31 of each year.
DHA operates the National Lottery in partnership with a variety of private business interests. Its partners include the state-owned Cambodian Agricultural Development Corporation, Cambodia Post, and a number of other organizations. In addition, the lottery is overseen by DHA’s Advisory Board, composed of distinguished citizens and experts in Cambodian culture, economics, and public policy.
Canada’s provincial/territorial governments own and operate their respective lotteries. The four nationwide games are Lotto 6/49, Lotto Max (which replaced Lotto Super 7 in September 2009), Daily Grand and Millionaire Life. The Interprovincial Lottery Corporation is a consortium of the five regional lotteries: Atlantic Lottery Corporation (New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Labrador), Loto-Quebec (Quebec), Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (Ontario), and Western Canada Lottery Corporation (Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Alberta, Northwest Territories, Yukon).
In Liechtenstein, the government-authorized International Lottery Foundation (ILLF) operates Internet lotteries. Its first Internet lottery, PLUS Lotto, launched in 1995 and processed the world’s first online lottery transaction. The ILLF also introduced the first instant scratchcard games on the Web. Its proceeds support charitable projects domestically and internationally.
In the communist country of Vietnam, selling lottery tickets is often the only way for poor people to make a living. It is far better to sell tickets than to engage in the socially detested act of begging. On good days, a ticket seller can make up to 230 000 VN-Dong (about 10 US-Dollars). For many of the country’s impoverished population, this amount is enough to live on. Huong, a single mother from Saigon, is one of these workers. She and her husband Manh work a heavy 16-hour shift each day selling tickets. This is how they can afford to put food on the table for their young daughter and baby son.
