The Interprovincial Lottery Corporation administers all of these lotteries and is a consortium of the five regional lottery corporations: Atlantic Lottery Corporation (New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Labrador), Loto-Quebec (Quebec), Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (Ontario), and Western Canada Lottery Corporation (Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, Yukon, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut).
A few years after World War II, state-sponsored lotteries were introduced in Europe. In Spain, the national lottery, known as Loterias y Apuestas del Estado, has an average jackpot prize of about EUR2.4 billion per year. The Spanish lottery is run by the state-owned operator Camelot Group.
In New Zealand, the Lottery Grants Board distributes its allocations from the National Lottery to a number of charitable and community organizations. Sport and Recreation New Zealand, Creative New Zealand, and the New Zealand Film Commission are three statutory bodies that receive Lottery Grants. The Government has also partnered with several private companies to operate a sports lottery and Keno.
The International Lottery in Liechtenstein Foundation (ILLF) pioneered Internet gaming, launching PLUS Lotto, the first web-based lotto, and processing the first online lottery transaction. It has since expanded to include more than 30 websites, marketed under various brands, including EuroMillions and eLotto. ILLF is a philanthropic foundation that supports charitable projects domestically and internationally. In addition, it has a stake in the world’s largest lottery software supplier, GTech, which runs 70% of the worldwide lottery market. In the United States, online lottery sales are growing rapidly and are expected to surpass those of traditional lotteries within a few years.
