In the United States, state-run lotteries are regulated by the federal Government and provide millions in prize money to winners. The New York Lottery is one of the largest in the United States and offers a variety of games including Keno, scratch tickets, Powerball, and the Mega Millions. In addition, there are a number of privately run online lottery websites.
In New Zealand, a national lottery is operated by Lotto New Zealand and distributes its profits to charities and community groups. The proceeds are primarily used for education, sport, and culture. Other lottery operators include Netlotto Pty Ltd and Jumbo Interactive which sell Australian lottery products to overseas customers. Lottery New Zealand operates its lottery games in a similar way to other Australian state-based lotteries. In addition to state-owned companies, private business interests are permitted to operate lottery games under government licences.
