In February, a high-profile corruption scandal rocked the lottery industry after a woman was arrested on suspicion of stealing millions of dollars from lottery officials. In response, the government issued a directive on Aug. 17, requiring the ministry to work with the Ministry of Public Security to better control the lottery. It also ordered that drawing times be reduced from two to one per week and that winnings be handled more transparently.
