Some private lottery companies have entered the online gaming market, offering instant-win games to players from around the world. These games are similar to traditional lottery games, except that players can win money immediately without ever having to purchase a ticket. However, the profits from selling lottery tickets are still significantly lower than those of a well-paid factory worker or office clerk in Hanoi. In fact, a single mother from Saigon said that she makes just enough to feed her pregnant daughter. Nonetheless, she has no plans to quit. Her daughter’s arrival is expected next year, and she hopes that her winnings will help pay for her schooling. Until then, she and her husband will continue to sell lotto tickets every afternoon.
