A source in the finance ministry told RFA that while changes have been made to improve transparency, more work needs to be done. A spokesman for the ministry said the committee that oversees the lottery is looking at reducing the number of drawing days to one per week, in an effort to rekindle faith in the game.
The Lao state official who spoke to RFA on condition of anonymity emphasized that the government will continue to monitor the lottery closely and ensure it complies with all laws. But he said the lottery’s concession holders, which include family members of senior government officials and business leaders, should also be held accountable for their actions.
