Laos Lottery is a beloved game in Laos and many are thrilled when their numbers appear on the board. But not without controversy. Recently, questions were raised as to whether winning numbers are randomly picked; according to reports originating in Thailand about officials managing this lottery knowing which numbers people select and manipulating results accordingly.
After hearing these allegations, on August 17 the government issued a directive asking the Ministry of Finance – which oversees the state lottery – and Ministry of Public Security to address them together. According to this directive, drawing times should be reduced from two a week to one and winnings handled more transparently; additionally illegal lottery tickets from Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand should also be regulated.
Although the directive has yet to be fully implemented, changes have already taken place. For instance, state lottery has reduced its drawing frequency and discontinued their scratchcard lottery as measures intended to both improve quality of lottery operations and restore faith among citizens.
Other than the Laos Lottery, numerous private and informal lotteries exist within Laos as a popular way of socializing and making money. Unfortunately, however, some unlicensed lotteries run by illegal operators are considered unsuitable for operation – when this occurs authorities must intervene to stop unlawful activity and protect players’ interests.

To be successful at gambling, one needs a solid strategy and be mindful of odds; all while keeping in mind their budget.
Though gambling is technically illegal in this country, the government has issued licenses to several casinos which permit foreigners to engage in different games such as poker, roulette and blackjack within special economic zones owned by them that aim to increase foreign trade and tourism. Unfortunately there are currently no plans for legalizing online gambling.
