Lao officials have been accused of rigging the country’s state lottery system in order to avoid paying out large jackpots, according to RFA’s sources in the communist nation. Nevertheless, Lao deputy finance minister and state lottery supervisor Sila Viengkeo has said the allegations are unfounded. He told RFA’s Lao Service on Aug. 17 that the ministry will work with the government’s public security department to implement a new directive on the matter. The directive was sent by prime minister Thongloun Sisoulith’s office.
