Lottery Online

Lottery Online

Lottery online is a type of Internet gaming where people play lottery-style games for money. These games are often based on chance and may be operated by state-licensed businesses. These businesses charge premiums on base lottery prices, which are then used to generate additional income from players. Typically, players can purchase tickets from these sites by clicking on a link or advertisement on a web page. However, some jurisdictions have banned such games or have strict regulations on their operation.

New Zealand

Lotteries are controlled by the government through an autonomous Crown entity, Lotto New Zealand (formerly the New Zealand Lottery Commission). Profits from Lotto are distributed to community and charity organizations via the Lottery Grants Board. This includes Sport and Recreation New Zealand, Creative New Zealand, and the New Zealand Film Commission. Lottery profits are not taxed in New Zealand.

Laos

The communist country of Laos has a legal state lottery, but players complain that officials are rigging the game in order to avoid large pay-outs. Drawings in the national lottery, which are held three times a week, often show numbers that vanish from purchased tickets. Earlier this year, the winning number 509 disappeared from tickets sold throughout the day of the drawing after many buyers sought to play it. The number is viewed as unlucky in Laos, and the fact that it disappeared from so many tickets raised suspicions about the honesty of the lottery.

In addition, there are accusations that the weight of lottery balls is rigged. A lottery salesman who spoke to RFA’s Lao Service on condition of anonymity told the program that executives at the company that runs the lottery know which numbers players pick, and this gives them an advantage in the rake. He said he has noticed that the heavier balls seem to fall into the hole in the machine more quickly than the lighter ones.

The government has responded to these concerns by instituting changes in the way that the lottery is run. Finance Ministry official Vilasack Phommaluck, who serves on the committee that oversees the lottery, told RFA’s Lao Service that the changes include cutting back to one drawing per week and handling the distribution of prizes in a more transparent manner. He also said that there are plans to double check the weight of the lottery balls. The changes are scheduled to take effect in November. The Ministry says it will also close informal football and lottery chance promotions that are being sold through mobile phone short messaging services.
