But officials are rigging the system by manipulating winning numbers in order to avoid large pay-outs, sources tell RFA’s Lao Service. In recent weeks, drawing results have shown numbers that disappear from purchased tickets and are deemed unlucky. In one case, the number 134 disappeared from purchased tickets before the drawing and was replaced 10 minutes later by the lucky number 662, the source said. Laos officials have vowed to address the problem and are investigating the case.
