Lottery officials have acknowledged there are rumors of shenanigans in the game. They say that Thailand’s Insee Trading Company, which runs the lottery, knows what numbers people choose, making it easy to manipulate results.
A Vientiane resident who follows the lottery told RFA’s Lao Service that a number that appeared in three consecutive drawings this month, 509, was not available for sale on the day of the drawing. The number is associated with the cat, a symbol of luck in Laos.
