Lottery Online

Lottery online games allow players to choose numbers and hope they will be drawn in a lottery draw. The prizes may be cash, goods or services. Lottery games are regulated by government authorities. In many countries, the profits from lottery games are used for public purposes. In New Zealand, the Lottery Grants Board distributes lottery proceeds to charities and community organizations. Lottery games are popular in the United States and Europe. Many people are able to play the lottery through a variety of websites and mobile devices.

Despite their efforts, the government has not been able to curb illegal online lottery activities. As a result, the number of players has increased significantly. Several companies have sprung up to cater to this growing market. These businesses offer a variety of lottery-style games and charge premiums over the base price. Some of these sites are based in the United States, while others are based offshore.

The International Lottery in Liechtenstein Foundation (ILLF) is a Swiss-based charitable foundation that oversees Internet lotteries. It was founded in 1995 and pioneered Internet gaming, processing the first online lottery transaction. The ILLF also operates a number of websites, including PLUS Lotto and Instant Kiwi. The foundation is a non-profit organization and supports charitable projects domestically and internationally.

While the ILLF is a private foundation, its members include some of Switzerland’s richest individuals and families. It has more than 900 employees worldwide, making it one of the largest employers in Liechtenstein. The company offers a variety of online lottery products, including instant scratchcards and Keno games. It is also a member of the World Lottery Association and the European Lottery Association.

In Laos, the government recently sent a directive to state officials to crack down on illegal lottery activities. The directive stipulates that drawing times for the legal state lottery must be reduced from two to one a week and winnings must be handled in a more transparent manner. It also calls for the closing down of informal football lotteries and lottery chances sold by short messaging service. The directive was sent by the office of Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith. RFA’s Ounkeo Souksavanh and Bounchanh Mouangkham contributed to this report.

In Vietnam, lottery tickets are sold in local stores at a cost of 9 000 VN-Dong (40 US-Cents) per ticket. The local store then sells these tickets to individual sellers who strive around Saigon. On good days, a lottery ticket seller can earn 230 000 VN-Dong (11 US-Dollars) – enough to support themselves and their families. On bad days, their profit is much lower. For many poor Vietnamese, selling lottery tickets is the only way to make money. They choose this job over the socially detested act of begging. Especially for single mothers like Huong and her son Manh, the job is essential to survive. Their day starts at 5 am when they have a breakfast of rice and vegetable soup before hitting the streets. Depending on how lucky they are, Huong and Manh can earn up to 250 lottery tickets each day.
