Drawings for the nation’s national lottery – which take place three times each week – frequently show winning numbers that have either vanished from purchased tickets or are deemed unlucky and unlikely to be chosen, the sources say.
A government official speaking on condition of anonymity told RFA that business interests in the lottery are run by people with connections to the ruling elite in the capital, Vientiane. The official said that he hopes that the state will resume control of the lottery in the near future.
