On Aug. 17, Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith sent a directive asking the Ministry of Finance, which oversees the country’s legal state lottery system, to work with the ministry of public security to reduce lottery drawing times from two to one per week and make sure that winnings are handled in a more transparent manner.

In 1967 buying a lottery ticket was legalized in Canada when a federal Omnibus Bill was passed that brought up-to-date a series of obsolete laws. Lotteries were included in this bill and regulated by the Omnibus Act. These regulations included requirements for local governments to ensure that the games were fair and to keep the proceeds within the communities.
