For example, on Oct. 14, the winning number, 509, disappeared from tickets sold throughout the day of the drawing. It reappeared only 10 minutes before the drawing began.
A Lao official who spoke to RFA on condition of anonymity said that private business interests have a stake in the lottery and manipulate the results. He urged the government to resume control of the lottery.
