Buying lottery tickets in the Philippines is now even easier after the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) launched its E-Lotto online betting platform. The e-lottery system is open to Filipinos living abroad and those with a Philippine SIM card, and it’s expected to boost PCSO sales. Its heightened accessibility could potentially catalyze the growth of physical lottery outlets, according to PCSO chief Jose Robles.
In Laos, state lottery officials have been accused of rigging the system in order to avoid large pay-outs. In one instance, the winning number for an Oct. 14 drawing was shown only as 5 on purchased tickets throughout the day of the draw, a source told RFA’s Lao Service. Afterwards, the winning number was changed to 134 only 10 minutes before the drawing, the source added. Those involved in the company responsible for the lottery include people with connections to the nation’s ruling elite, the source said. The government has issued a directive that requires the Ministry of Finance to work with the Ministry of Public Security to better manage the problem, but it is not yet clear when those measures will be implemented.
