Those who call RFA’s Lao service say that the state lottery is managed by private business interests connected to the ruling elite, and that the drawings cannot be trusted. Moreover, these businesses pay the government an annual fee to manage the national lottery. But the public is not told how much this fee is, and how it is spent. Those who speak to RFA on condition of anonymity are hoping that the state will take back control of the lottery.
