Laos has a state-run lottery, known as the Hanoi Lotto. A lottery official speaking on condition of anonymity said that the company responsible for the lottery has business interests in other countries. He added that these interests are owned by people with ties to the country’s ruling elite.
The official said that the lottery company has sold more than 3 billion baht worth of tickets and that the winner has not been identified. He noted that the winner has only a year to claim his prize.
