Lao state officials have been accused of rigging the country’s national lottery system. Drawings often show numbers that vanish from tickets purchased for the lottery, and some of the companies responsible for the lottery have links to members of the ruling elite. Sources in the Southeast Asian nation told RFA’s Lao Service that private business interests should not be responsible for running a public service such as the lottery.
