A Lao lawmaker has called for action to regulate illegal lottery operations, saying they lure people into habitual gambling. Finance Minister Bounchom Ubonpaseuth told lawmakers that revenue earned by the state-run lottery enterprise has dropped threefold because of the sale of foreign countries’ lotteries, even though Laos has its own legal lottery. He said the government must invest in a system that can track those involved in illegal lottery sales, RFA’s Lao Service reported.
