A woman in Thailand filed a lawsuit against a monk who she accused of cheating her out of her winnings in a lottery. The lawsuit was filed in Chon Buri province, where the woman lives, over a lottery ticket that she bought for 1,000 baht (US$3.5). The court ruled that the man had cheated her and ordered him to return the prize money.
The winner of this year’s jackpot from Vietnam’s state-run Vietlott lottery was a woman who bought a single ticket in Ba Ria-Vung Tau province. The total prize was VND314.1 billion ($12.4 million). According to the lottery’s website, two customers also won Jackpot 1 with a ticket bought in Ho Chi Minh City. The jackpot is one of the largest in Vietlott history. The lottery’s prize structure increases with the number of matched numbers. In addition to the single jackpot, there are three other levels of prizes for matched numbers. In the past, the lottery has also offered animal-named numbers such as elephant and tiger. The animal names are now discontinued, however.
