The national lottery is controlled by an autonomous Crown entity called Lotto New Zealand (formerly the New Zealand Lottery Commission). Profits from Lotto are distributed by the Lottery Grants Board to a variety of sports, arts and community organizations throughout the country. In addition, a number of statutory bodies receive allocations from the Lottery Grants Board, including Sport and Recreation New Zealand, Creative New Zealand, and the New Zealand Film Commission.
In Canada, there are four nationwide lottery games: Lotto 6/49, Lotto Max (which replaced Lotto Super 7 in September 2009), Daily Grand and Millionaire Life. Each of the provinces and territories administer their own provincial lotteries, which are regulated by the Interprovincial Lottery Corporation. Instant lottery tickets, such as scratch cards, are also available in some jurisdictions.
In Japan, the national lottery is called the Kokusai Gakuen, or “public lottery.” It was created in 1875 and is supervised by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications. The total prize money for the first place is usually around a billion yen, with a second-place prize of 300 million yen. The prizes for the third and fourth places are a hundred million and fifty million yen, respectively.
