The inquiry, conducted by the Ministry of Justice’s Anti-Corruption Division and a police unit, was initiated after a citizen filed a complaint about an online auction site that sold foreign-brand lottery tickets. The online auction was a fraudulent scheme to defraud the buyer, the complaint said. The company has since been shut down.
In New Zealand, lotteries are controlled by the Government through an autonomous Crown entity called Lotto New Zealand. Lotto New Zealand operates four lotteries: the Lotto (including Powerball and Strike), Keno, Bullseye and Instant Kiwi scratch card games. In January 2018, the company was acquired by the French group TF1 for 2.5 billion euros. The deal was approved by both the board and shareholders of the company. The acquisition is expected to make the company the largest fast-food chain in Europe.
