These lotteries are administered by the Interprovincial Lottery Corporation, a consortium of five regional lottery commissions owned by their respective provincial/territorial governments: Atlantic Lottery Corporation (New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island), Loto-Quebec (Quebec), Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (Ontario), and Western Canada Lottery Corporation (Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, Yukon, Northwest Territories, Nunavut).
In the European Union, there are currently 27 national lotteries, operated by state-owned companies or organizations such as Camelot Group and the State of Liechtenstein. In addition, there are several private lotteries in the EU. The European Commission oversees the European lottery industry and ensures its compliance with European legislation.
The International Lottery in Liechtenstein (ILLF) pioneered Internet gaming and has been a leader in introducing lottery-style games online. It offers a wide variety of online and instant lottery games in multiple languages. ILLF also supports charitable projects and organizations both domestically and internationally.
Officials in Laos have been accused of rigging the nation’s lottery system. Drawings of the national lottery often display numbers that are not listed on purchased tickets. In one incident, a number 509 appeared on ticket purchases during the Oct. 14 drawing only to change to 5 shortly before the draw, a source told RFA’s Lao service. The source added that business interests with stakes in the lottery’s work include members of the country’s ruling elite. The government should resume control of the lottery, the source said. It should also stop giving licenses to private businesses that manipulate the system.
