A government official serving on the committee that oversees the lottery told RFA that changes had been made to address concerns about the legitimacy of the game, including cutting back on the number of drawings. But he declined to give details. Another official, Vilasack Phommaluck, said that other changes may be introduced in the future to help restore faith in the lottery. In the past, he said, the lottery was managed by private business interests that have connections to the nation’s ruling elite. The official asked to speak on condition of anonymity.
