In the drawing for Oct. 14, for example, the number 509 disappeared from many purchased tickets but reappeared shortly before the drawing was to take place.
A Lao deputy finance minister who spoke to RFA’s Lao Service on condition of anonymity said private business interests have too much influence over the lottery and its operations. He said the state should regain control of the lottery so that it is managed transparently. This is not the first time allegations of rigging have been raised in the country.
