The prime minister’s office recently sent a directive asking the ministry that oversees the country’s legal state lottery to work with the ministry of public security to better manage the problem, sources told RFA. This would include reducing the frequency of drawing from two to one per week, and making sure that all winners are properly verified. The ministry is expected to follow through on these recommendations by the end of this year. The Lao deputy finance minister and state lottery supervisor, Sila Viengkeo, said the government would strictly enforce the directive.
