In the communist country of Laos, lottery officials have been accused of rigging the system to avoid large pay-outs. Drawings in the national lottery, which take place three times a week, often show numbers that are not found on purchased tickets. For example, the winning number 509 on Oct. 14 this year showed up only as 5 on tickets sold throughout the day of the drawing, a source told RFA’s Lao Service.
