A private business with a stake in the national lottery’s work was responsible for rigging drawing results, a source told RFA on condition of anonymity. This prompted the prime minister’s office to send a directive Aug. 17 asking the ministry to reduce the number of drawings and improve transparency. The ministry complied with the directive, but it has not yet set a date for implementation. Private business interests also have a role in the country’s informal football lotteries and lottery chance purchases via short messaging service, the source said.
