Lotteries are a type of gambling where people can win money or prizes. They are operated by government-authorized organizations, such as state and local governments, or private companies. New Zealand has the Lotto, Keno, and Instant Kiwi scratch card games. New Zealand’s Lottery profits are distributed by the Lottery Grants Board to charitable and community groups.
Earlier this month, an immigrant from Laos won the $1.3 billion Powerball jackpot in Oregon. The winner, Cheng “Charlie” Saephan, and his wife, Duanpen, plan to take the lump sum payment of $422 million after taxes.
