For example, the number 509 that appeared on tickets sold on Oct. 14 this year disappeared from purchased tickets in the aftermath of the drawing. The rigged lottery has also led to an outbreak of informal football lotteries and lottery chances sold through short messaging service providers. Gambling is illegal in Laos, except in Special Economic Zones which are leased by the government to boost foreign trade.
