According to a caller to RFA’s Lao Service, the owners of these companies have connections with Lao ruling elite families, including former prime minister Thongsing and former president Khamtay Siphandone. In the future, the caller said he hopes that the government will resume control of the lottery, as it is a “national service.” The lottery should be 100 percent managed by the government and not private business interests, he added.
