In Canada, lottery profits are used to fund provincial and territorial programs. In the past, some Canadian lotteries were run by the federal government, but in 1967 a law was passed allowing provinces to operate their own lotteries. These laws are still in place.
Currently, there are four nationwide lotteries in Canada: Lotto 6/49, Lotto Max (which replaced Lotto Super 7 in September 2009), Daily Grand, and Millionaire Life. The Lottery Interprovincial Corporation manages these lotteries. It is made up of five regional lottery commissions owned by the provincial and territorial governments: Atlantic Lottery Corporation (New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador), Loto-Quebec (Quebec), Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (Ontario), and Western Canada Lottery Corporation (Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, Yukon Territory, Northwest Territories).
