For many poor Vietnamese, selling lottery tickets is their only source of income. They start their day at 5 am with a quick breakfast of rice and vegetable soup, then hit the streets of Saigon, where they sell their tickets for 16 hours, making about 250 per day on good days. They use some of their proceeds to send their children to school, and the rest they put aside for travel—South Korea, Japan, or Vietnam.

Canada has four nationwide lotteries operated by the interprovincial lottery corporation: Atlantic Lottery Corporation (New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island), Loto-Quebec (Quebec), Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (Ontario), and Western Canada Lottery Corporation (Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, Yukon, and Northwest Territories). There are also local lotteries in cities such as Vancouver.
