For example, RFA’s source says, a radio station once broadcast 134 as the winning number of the Hanoi Lottery, but then changed it to 662 just an hour before the scheduled drawing.
While the government in Laos does not control the state lottery, it does regulate the industry and oversees its operations. The deputy finance minister and state lottery supervisor, Sila Viengkeo, told RFA that allegations that the government is involved in the illegal sale of lotteries are unfounded.
The state-owned Loterias y Apuestas del Estado has an annual prize pool of up to EUR2.4 billion. It is one of the world’s largest lottery operators. The company’s top prize/jackpot is awarded to (not split by) up to 180 winning tickets, and it is the only European lottery to award a maximum of three million Euros for a single winning ticket. The prize money is supplemented by proceeds from the sale of national lottery products, such as televised events and instant games. Lottery winnings in Liechtenstein are not taxed.
