How to Play the Lottery Online in Vietnam

Lotteries are games of chance in which a participant can win a prize. They may be legal or illegal, and they can also be run by state governments, private companies, churches, or charitable organizations. They are usually based on the principle of randomly selecting winners from entries submitted by the public. In the United States, there are several types of lotteries, including state-based, interstate, and international lotteries. In Canada, there are four nationwide lotteries: Lotto 6/49, Lotto Max (which replaced Lotto Super 7 in September 2009), Daily Grand and Millionaire Life. The lottery system is administered by the Interprovincial Lottery Corporation, which is a consortium of the five regional lottery commissions owned by their respective provincial/territorial governments: Atlantic Lottery Corporation (New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Labrador), Loto-Quebec (Quebec), Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (Ontario), Western Canada Lottery Corporation (Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, Yukon and Northwest Territories), and BC Lottery Corporation (British Columbia).

Laos lottery officials have been rigging the national lottery in order to avoid paying out large jackpots, sources tell RFA. Drawings for the popular national lottery, which take place three times a week, often show numbers that vanish from purchased tickets or are deemed unlucky, sources say. For example, the winning number 509 in a drawing on Oct. 14 this year showed up only as 5 on the tickets sold throughout the day of the drawing, a source in the capital Vientiane told RFA.

Nevertheless, illegal lotteries are flourishing in the communist nation, with some offering multiple lucky draws per day. Finance Minister Bounchom Ubonpaseuth recently warned lawmakers that he will take action to regulate these illegal operations, citing a need for investment in a system to trace and identify those selling them.

In the city of Saigon, one of the fastest growing cities in Asia, lottery ticket sellers are a common sight on the streets. Some sellers can make up to 230 000 VND (10 US-Dollars) a day, which is a decent salary for many poor Vietnamese people whose social security systems aren’t yet capable of helping them out. Despite their low earnings, lottery ticket sellers prefer selling tickets to begging, which they consider a more dignified way to earn money.

One lottery winner named Dokkeo, who won more than 3 million kip in the last drawing, said that she will share her winnings with her family and devote some of it to travel. “I’d like to visit South Korea, Japan, and Vietnam,” she told RFA. “But my family comes first.” She added that since she won the lottery, her phone has been ringing non-stop with notifications and calls from friends and strangers alike. She says her family is what keeps her going and that she hopes to help more people with the money she will win in future lotteries.
