Laos Lotto – Gambling Shenanigans

Sources in a communist nation allege lottery officials are gaming the system by manipulating winning numbers in drawing sessions three times weekly. Drawings often produce numbers which have already been picked or are seen as unlucky by local culture; according to one source contacted by RFA on Oct 14 this year, 509 appeared only as 5 when tickets purchased throughout that day were punched into computer terminals for drawing – then when clerk punched it into computer at lottery station it disappeared without trace when put into computer system! Furthermore, sources state that private company in charge of lottery knows which numbers players choose and can thus influence results by manipulating drawing results!

Laos Lotto is a popular form of gambling in Laos, yet some individuals are becoming suspicious that some underhanded dealings may be taking place. RFA was told by sources close to the lottery committee that private business interests were involved and that the government should resume control. Committee Chairman Vilasack Phommaluck assured RFA that changes had been implemented in response to concerns but provided no details; also suggested changing frequency to once every week and removed private interests as being responsible for public services provided by Lotto.
