Lottery for Arts is a lottery-style event where art enthusiasts have the chance to acquire original works of fine art by professional and emerging artists. The event’s proceeds support education and outreach programs at Blue Line Arts. Tickets are available online and at participating venues. Tickets may be purchased up to the time of the drawing. Winners must be present to claim their prize at the event, or they will forfeit it. If you are unable to attend, you can set up a proxy in advance with the gallery.

New Zealand’s national lottery is controlled by an autonomous Crown entity, Lotto New Zealand (formerly the New Zealand Lottery Commission). The Lotto New Zealand Corporation allocates a portion of the net proceeds from Lotto sales to sports and cultural activities through its Lottery Grants Board. It also operates a number of national games including Lotto, Keno and Instant Kiwi scratch cards.

In Montreal, Mayor Jean Drapeau, seeking to recover some of the money spent on the World’s Fair and subway system, launched a “voluntary tax.” For a $2.00 donation, players could participate in a monthly draw with a grand prize of $100,000. While the Minister of Justice argued that Drapeau’s “tax” violated federal law, he insisted that the City had the right to manage its own lotteries.

Although the government prohibits most gambling, it does allow it in Special Economic Zones that are leased out by the country to boost foreign trade. Currently, there are 3 casinos operating in the country offering popular casino games like roulette and poker. However, online gambling is not allowed.

While illegal online lotteries are booming, the government is taking steps to regulate them. Lotteries based in Vietnam are sold unlawfully in Laos as often as four times a day, Finance Minister Bounchom Ubonpaseuth told the national assembly last month. He said his ministry will work with the public security department to tackle the problem.

Officials are concerned that some of the companies running the lottery have connections to Lao business interests and political leaders. “As a result, they are not transparent to the public,” a state official speaking on condition of anonymity told RFA. He added that the companies do not disclose how much they pay the state each year for their concessions.
