Laos Lottery rigging
Lao state officials are systematically rigging the national lottery to avoid paying out large jackpots, RFA’s sources in Laos tell us. The rigging is done by manipulating the numbers drawn during the draws, which are held three times a week in the communist nation. Several of the number combinations that were sold during recent drawing sessions mysteriously disappeared from purchased tickets and the numbers were changed to unlucky ones, the sources say. The government has issued a directive asking the ministry that oversees the state lottery to work with the police to better manage the problem, but it is unclear when the new measures will take effect.
